The new action camera has a built-in mount and support for plug-in accessories.
Hero 8 Black looks almost the same as its predecessors, but it boasts several significant changes. One of the main ones is support for plug-in accessories called Mods. At the moment, the Mods line includes three devices: an external microphone with additional connectors (Media Mod $ 79), a flash (Light Mod $ 49) and an additional display (Display Mod $ 79).
Another innovation is the integrated mount. It can be conveniently folded (held by magnets) if you intend to shoot without a tripod, and easily open if you want to mount the camera on a tripod.
The lens in Hero 8 Black does not protrude as much from the body as in Hero 7 Black, but it is still non-replaceable. GoPro notes that the new product uses glass twice as durable as in Hero 7 Black, so you are unlikely to have to change it. Hero 8 Black also uses a new battery. It has the same capacity as before, but it is more powerful.
As for the software part, GoPro introduced the improved digital stabilization of HyperSmooth 2.0. The user has several stabilization modes, in addition, HyperSmooth can now be used in all shooting modes. The Time Warp function has been updated, it now automatically adjusts to your movement speed, based on camera data. A new Live Burst mode has appeared, which is similar to Apple's Live Photos. The camera takes pictures for 1.5 seconds before and after you press the shutter button, resulting in “live photos”.
Hero 8 Black is capable of recording 4K video at 60 fps and 100 Mbps bitrate (first time). Super slow-motion shooting is carried out in Full HD resolution at 240 fps. Full HD resolution for streaming has also become available. GoPro has added several presets to make it easier and faster to switch between different shooting modes. By default, 4 presets are available, but you can add them yourself (up to 10 pieces) and edit.
With Hero Black 8 you can get 12 MP photos. Moreover, users can now take RAW photos in time-laps and burst modes. The company also emphasizes that HDR images will look much better due to the rejection of third-party algorithms that created artifacts on images in motion. The Hero 8 Black case is waterproof; it is equipped with a microSD card slot and a USB-C port.
GoPro Hero 8 Black is now available for pre-order at a price of $ 399. Sales will start on October 15th.
